The Mount Kailash Tour represents a significant pilgrimage for Hindus, aimed at exploring the majestic Mount Kailash and the arid Himalayan region of Tibet. This journey commences in Kathmandu, leading travelers on an overland expedition to the pristine Lake Manasarovar and the sacred Mount Kailash, both situated in the remote western part of the Tibetan Himalayas. The tour not only showcases breathtaking natural landscapes but also provides insights into Tibetan Buddhist culture and opportunities to engage with the local Tibetan populace.
Nestled in the far western region of the Tibetan Plateau, Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar stand as two remarkable destinations for tourists. Accessing Mount Kailash requires a four-day continuous drive from Kathmandu across the expansive Tibetan plateau, or alternatively, a week-long trek from Simikot in western Nepal. Upon completing the four-day journey, visitors are greeted by the stunning sight of a turquoise lake adorned with floating swans, with the magnificent Mount Kailash in close proximity. For Hindus, Mount Kailash is revered as the dwelling place of Lord Shiva, while both Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash hold profound religious significance for Hindus and Buddhists alike. Additionally, four major Asian rivers—the Indus, Karnali, Brahmaputra, and Sutlej—originate from Lake Manasarovar.
