Luxury Everest Base Camp trek introduction

The luxury Everest Base Camp trek is designed for travelers who would prefer better accommodation and amenities during the trek. So, you do not stay in a basic lodge or share bathrooms with other trekkers on this trek.

What sets the Everest Base Camp luxury trek apart is the high-end accommodation and meals in the remote mountains. You will stay at renowned establishments like the Mountain Lodges or Rivendell Lodge.

Imagine well-decorated rooms, soft mattresses, heating systems, en-suite bathrooms, private balconies, and charging sockets in the room. Yes, these are privileges in the remote mountains of the Khumbu region, and only a few trekkers get to experience them.

After a 6-hour trek, a place like this will be waiting for you to rest and recover. You will be in great shape throughout the trek, which increases your success rate and makes the overall experience incredible.

The adventure begins with the famous Lukla flight from Kathmandu throughout the year. Our priority is to book the Lukla flight from Kathmandu airport in the peak season months of March, April, May, October, and November.

This is only possible if you book the trek early. It allows us to secure the seat on time in these months. Alternatively, you will fly from Manthali/Ramechhap Airport. It takes 4-5 hours to drive from Kathmandu to Manthali/Ramechhap Airport.

January, February, June, July, August, September, and December are not so popular times to trek to Everest Base Camp. So, air traffic is low at Kathmandu Airport, and the Lukla flights are operated from here.

Upon landing in Lukla, you will commence trekking with your guide and porter, who will be with you throughout the journey. To reach Everest Base Camp, you will ascend above the Dudh Koshi River Valley and walk through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier.

It takes eight days to reach EBC from Lukla. You will spend nights in a beautiful Sherpa village and take two acclimatization breaks in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, respectively.

There will be several river crossings on the way and rugged hilly terrain. After the EBC hike, you will trek to Kala Patthar from Gorak Shep before returning to Lukla to end the journey.

Through our luxury Everest Base Camp trek package, we want to show the exclusive, lavish side of the Himalayas to our customers. You can exceed your expectations on this route.

We have fixed weekly departures from Kathmandu in the peak trekking seasons. So, couples, solo trekkers, families, small groups, and adventurers can conveniently join the trek anytime with us.

Moreover, we also provide customization. You can tailor the luxury Everest Base Camp trek itinerary and services. For an unforgettable EBC trek experience, the luxury Everest Base Camp trek package will be best.

Essential Information

Difficulties during the luxury Everest Base Camp trek

The luxury Everest Base Camp trek is moderate with some tough sections. Compared to the standard EBC trek, the luxury variation is much more doable because of added comfort and amenities.

The trail ascends and descends throughout the way. So, you have to be fit to walk uphill and downhill for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Likewise, as you ascend, the terrain and climate change.

Mornings and nights are colder than the daytime at high altitude. Likewise, long walking constantly pushes you mentally. Fatigue is no joke due to high altitude and long hiking duration.

However, all these challenges are manageable if you are fit and follow our advice.

How to get fit to trek to Everest Base Camp?

The simple answer to this question is that you have to exercise to get fit for the Everest Base Camp trekking. Now, do you need to follow a rigorous training plan? No.

You need an effective workout plan that will help you improve your stamina, endurance, and strength before the trek begins. If you are a beginner trekker, start your fitness journey early.

In fact, we recommend booking the trek early. It will give you a deadline. So, you will be focused. We recommend the following exercises:

➤ Strength training: Great to strengthen your core, legs, and upper body as they are involved highly during the trek.

➤ Cardio: Cardiovascular exercises will improve your stamina and endurance. You have options like swimming, cycling, running, etc. Pick whatever you like and do it daily, and gradually increase your intensity.

➤ Regular long walks: Walking 6 hours a day is no joke. It not only demands physical fitness but also mental strength. So, practice long walking and increase duration. Best walk with a 5 kg backpack.

➤ Day hikes: Highly recommended. If you have hiking trails around your city, go on a few hikes to mimic uphill and downhill walking.

Luxury Everest Base Camp trek permits

For the luxury Everest Base Camp trek, you need the following permits:

1. Sagarmatha National Park Entry permit: USD2 30 per person

2. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit: USD 20 per person

Both permits are covered in our luxury Everest Base Camp trek package. Our team will get the permits in advance on your behalf.

Best time for the luxury Everest Base Camp trek

Technically, you can do the luxury Everest Base Camp trek throughout the year. Nevertheless, some seasons offer better weather, climate, views, and trekking conditions, which make them a superior choice.

The top seasons for the luxury Everest Base Camp trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). We also love the winter season for the luxury EBC trek.

➤ Spring: Enjoy rhododendron blooms till Tengboche village. The landscapes are heavenly, and the mountain views are crystal clear. Pleasant trekking conditions and stable weather.

➤ Autumn: Crystal clear skies, no dust, great visibility, and stunning mountain vistas. Autumn has festivity in it. Nepalese celebrate their biggest festivals in this season. So, the environment is especially divine.

➤ Winter: The climate is cold, but the trails are almost empty. Low trekking season, so lodges are not in that demand and prices are low. Some days are gloomy, but most days are clear skies and breathtaking mountain vistas.

➤ Summer/monsoon: The weather is very unstable between June and August. The climate is hot and humid. Rainfall makes the trail slippery and muddy. There are also leeches at lower elevations. Landside risks increase. On the good side, great biodiversity, heavenly rainy scenery, and peaceful trails.

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness while trekking to Everest Base Camp is common. Note that not all trekkers suffer from it. However, those who do not acclimatize and take high altitude lightly definitely suffer from altitude sickness.

And sometimes even with all precautions, you can get altitude sickness symptoms because you never know how your body is going to react to high altitude, especially if it is your first time.

The oxygen level and air pressure at high altitude are very different from those at sea level. When you trek in the Himalayas, you ascend 3,000 meters above sea level.

On the EBC trek, you ascend above 5,000 meters above sea level. This drastic elevation change may lead to altitude sickness. To avoid it, we take acclimatization breaks, hike slowly, and follow the preventive measures below:

  • Be aware of altitude sickness symptoms, which include headache, nausea, dizziness, trouble sleeping, breathlessness, and loss of appetite. These early signs can be avoided if you take action on time.
  • Listen to your body and address even a small discomfort. Sometimes the smallest discomfort can be a sign of altitude sickness. Inform your guide and get first aid on time.
  • Garlic soup and ginger-honey tea are considered natural remedies for acclimatization. Have them daily.
  • Drink 2 liters of water daily. You have to keep yourself hydrated.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking while ascending. Again, these can dehydrate you and increase the risk of altitude sickness.
  • Ascend slowly and maintain a steady pace. You do not race in the Himalayas. Patience is key.

Accommodation and meals during the luxury Everest Base Camp trek

As it is a luxury trek, the accommodation will be high-end mountain lodges that offer spacious rooms with attached bathrooms, sleek interiors, Western-style toilets, running hot water, in-room charging facilities, and many other amenities.

We book twin shared rooms. Single rooms are also available, but can cost you extra money. Likewise, you will also have meals in the lodges. The food will be fresh and delicious.

We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a day. You can buy additional snacks and beverages by yourself. Mela options are excellent in luxury lodges.

You can choose between the local dishes like dal bhat, thukpa, syakpa, Tibetan bread, chapati, Sherpa stew, porridge, momo, chowmein, etc, or Western options like pizza and pasta.

Transporation

We provide airport transfers as per your luxury Everest Base Camp trek itinerary. This package includes standard Lukla flights. During the airport transfers, we use a private vehicle.

You can upgrade to a helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and Lukla to Kathmandu if you are interested. It will take your luxury EBC trek to the next level.

Communication

In Kathmandu, you can get free WiFi in your hotel, cafes, restaurants, and most shops. You can purchase a tourist SIM to use mobile data while trekking. The mobile network is decent along the EBC trail.

Likewise, in luxury lodges, you will get free WiFi. The network may get disturbed if the weather is not stable. Above Dinghboche village, both mobile networks and WiFi don't work that great.

Nepal travel visa

Our luxury Everest Base Camp trek package does not include a Nepal travel visa. Trekkers have to get it by themselves. They can visit the Nepalese Embassy or Consulate Office in their country to obtain the tourist visa.

Another option is to apply for the on-arrival travel visa. You can fill out the visa form online and submit the visa-required documents and visa fee at the immigration desk at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

It will take you less than 20 minutes to get your Nepal travel visa. Note that the on-arrival visa is not available for travelers from certain countries. Check out this official page to learn more about the on-arrival travel visa.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is a must-have for high-altitude treks like the Everest Base Camp. It provides financial security during unseen events and helps you receive quick rescue in times of crisis.

Make sure to include emergency helicopter evacuation and medical bills in your travel insurance for the luxury Everest Base Camp trek. Buy insurance in your country for the best deals.

Tips for the guide and porter

Guides and porters expect tips at the end of their service, and it is a common practice in Nepal. Our luxury Everest Base Camp trek package does not include tips. So, trekkers are requested to budget it.

There is no minimum or maximum amount for a tip. You can tip whatever amount you wish. At the very minimum, we ask you to give a decent tip.
