This adventure combines two of the best treks in the Annapurnas - the Annapurna Circuit and the Tlicho Lake. You will trek through the Annapurna Conservation Area, exploring traditional Nepalese villages and enjoying breathtaking mountain panoramas.

The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek begins from Kathmandu. You will travel to Dharapani in a local bus/jeep. The trek begins from Dharapani village. Following the Marsyangdi River, you will ascend through Chame and Upper Pisang villages to reach Manang village.

The trail goes through lush rhododendron forests and offers striking views of Fishtail, Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and many other mountains. You will see beautiful waterfalls, rivers, and terraced fields on the way.

In Manang village, you will take an acclimatization break. For a side hike, you can visit the Ice Lake or Green Lake. Continuing the trek from Manang, you will ascend to Siri Kharka.

From Siri Kharka, the trail to Tilicho Lake separates. You will traverse a steep slope and glacier moraine to reach Tilicho Base Camp. Spend a night at the base camp and hike to Tilicho Lake the next day.

After that, descend back to Siri Kharka and rejoin the Annapurna Circuit main trail. Further, you will ascend through alpine meadows to Yak Kharka. Then spend one more night in Thorong Phedi and cross the Thorong La Pass.

From the pass, you will witness the most phenomenal mountain views and a sunrise. Then descend from the pass to Muktinath Temple. The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek 15 days ends in Muktinath Temple.

Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani via Besisahar

From Kathmandu, you will drive to Dharapani. It will be a long ride, so we will leave the city early in the morning. The road from Kathmandu to Besishar is smooth most of the way.

After Dumre, some parts of the roads are bumpy. You will see beautiful, lush hills, rivers, terraces, and mountains during the drive.

At Besishar, we will switch our vehicle to a mountain jeep and drive to Dharapani. It will be a little bumpy ride, but the landscapes make up for the discomfort.

The trek to Tilicho Lake is demanding, but the scenery you get to behold upon reaching here is nothing compared to the tough walk. You will literally question if this is heaven.

Imagine turquoise blue water glistening in the sun, snow-covered mountains, and alpine vegetation all in one picture. After enjoying your time at Tilicho, trek back to Siri Khara, following the same route.

Trek from Siri Kharka to Yak Kharka

Thorong Phedi is the last main resting spot before Thorong La Pass. It is quite a bustling place, especially during peak trekking seasons. So, some trekkers prefer to spend a night at Thorong High Camp.

Trek from Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,760 m/12,623 ft) via Thorong La Pass

Today is a big day. You will cross the Thorong La Pass. It is by far the most anticipated day of this trip. To cross a mountain pass, we begin ascending before the sun rises.

Using a torch and our headlamps, we will slowly ascend. By the time we reach the top of the pass, the sun will be rising, offering a heavenly sunrise and an outstanding mountain panorama.

We will enjoy the view and then continue trekking to Muktinath. From the top, the trail descends to Muktinath Temple, passing by landslide debris and rocky trails.

Muktinath Temple is one of the most important temples in Nepal for Hindus and Buddhists. Devotees visit this temple for liberation and to get rid of their sins.

The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek requires two permits - the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit and the TIMS Card. You do not have to get a restricted area permit for this trek.

The Himalayas have very volatile weather throughout the year, especially above 4,000 meters. However, in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), the weather gets a bit more stable.

You will spend nights in teahouses during the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek. Rooms are small and mostly shared between two trekkers.

Services are limited in teahouses. Attached toilets are only found in a handful of teahouses. Most have made their bathrooms outside the main building, and they are shared among trekkers.

Likewise, charging, WiFi, and hot showers are available in most tea houses, but these services cost extra money and are not included in the room cost. Trekkers have to pay for these services by themselves.

For food, you will get a variety of options such as the famous dal bhat, fried rice, thukpa, porridge, thenduk, stew, Tibetan bread, chapati, pasta, momo, chowmin, etc.

For breakfast, you will have options like toast, eggs, pancakes, oats, tea, coffee, soup, porridge, etc. Similarly, we drink boiled water during the trek. It is easily available everywhere and not as expensive as bottled water.

Currency

In Nepal, you have to use Nepalese currency. You can easily exchange your money at the money exchange center or the bank in Thamel.

Likewise, while trekking, carry cash with you because locals do not accept payment via cards or foreign currency.

There is also no ATM on the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek route. So, withdraw money in Kathmandu to use in the mountains.

The higher you ascend, the poorer the network will get. The upper part of the trail has almost zero network, especially after Siri Kharka to Tilicho Lake and Thorong La Pass.

Travel insurance
